A few tips and reminders to make your day on the water as seamless and enjoyable as possible. Please read through before you head out.

As a courtesy, we are sending this letter with some tips and reminders to make your trip as seamless and enjoyable as possible. Prior to your departure for the guided fishing trip, please read through the following to ensure you are prepared.
Heading out on a fishing trip is almost guaranteed to be a good time, but wearing the wrong clothing can ruin your day. To help you be prepared and comfortable, we've broken down the most common conditions you'll find on the water.
The weather in Southern Ontario can be extremely variable. Keeping a close eye on the forecast leading up to your trip is the best way to make sure you're dressed for the right conditions.
What to wear
Warm weather
As both the hottest time of year to go fishing and the most popular, summer can be tricky to dress for. It's a good idea to wear a light jacket or shell, T-shirt or coverup and shorts. This lets you stay warm during the boat ride. For protection from the sun, pack lots of sunscreen, wear a hat, and consider long sleeves with UV protection — lightweight long-sleeve hoodies are great for sun protection and comfort in heat and wind. Wear appropriate closed-toe shoes (sandals, flip-flops, or crocs are not recommended) or rain boots for the forecasted weather. Sunglasses are required for both sun protection and safety.
Cold weather
Winter fishing can be hard because you need to stay warm but also be prepared for getting wet. A float suit / survival suit is ideal for mid-winter fishing. As with all cold-weather activities, dressing in layers is important. Three layers — a shirt, flannel or sweatshirt, and a season-appropriate jacket — will be enough for most areas. A water-repellent or waterproof jacket is an ideal outer layer. Most full-length pants are fine, but for mid-winter months thermal long underwear is required. Toques are great for warmth (bring sunscreen for your face if you wear a beanie). Insulated, waterproof boots are highly recommended. Sunglasses are required. Two pairs of gloves are recommended — thin insulated gloves for dexterity and thick cold-weather gloves for added warmth.
Wind
Wind can be harsh — making you cold on hot days or leaving your skin burning after a day of exposure. The best protection is long sleeves for your arms and a gaiter to protect your face and neck. Depending on the weather, a windbreaker jacket and/or pants can be very helpful. As a bonus, the same gear that protects you from the wind protects you from the sun.
Rain
Rain is difficult to plan for, but in some areas it's inevitable. Waterproof fabric like GORE-TEX is the best option for handling getting wet. Whether it's rain or spray, waterproof outer layers keep you focused on catching fish rather than staying warm and dry. Even if you don't see rain in the forecast, it's a good idea to bring rain gear if you have space.
Licenses
Be sure to bring your valid fishing license. If you don't currently have one, it can be purchased from any Canadian Tire, Bass Pro Shops, or online.
If your planned trip involves fishing in American waters, a New York State fishing license is required.
Your guide will verify you have your license before starting the guided trip.
Fishing & boating gear
We will provide all fishing gear and tackle necessary for your desired fishing trip. If you'd like to bring your own gear, please contact us to discuss prior to your trip. We strive for the utmost safety on board and will provide all required safety equipment for boating in Ontario / New York waters.
Refreshments
Once on the water, we will not be returning to shore until the guided fishing trip ends. Please bring food and/or drinks packed in a small cooler with ice, as your guide will not be providing these.
While our fishing guides strive for a successful trip, there's no guarantee of catching fish, as many factors like weather, fish behavior, and location influence the outcome.
